Skyline Hotel New York
The name, Skyline Hotel, is pretty ironic considering it only has eight floors and must be one of the shortest building in the west side of Manhattan. Despite being low on stature, it is high on value, location, and amenities.
The hotel looks fresh after its recent revamp in décor during 2006. It has a prime location: just a half mile away from Times Square and Rockefeller Center and near the Theatre District. It was a perfect spot for enjoying our New Year’s celebration in the Big Apple. The friendly staff at the concierge desk helped us considerably in terms of navigating the city and providing good suggestions on restaurants, cabs, and theatre tickets. Read more »

The value alert buzzer has just gone off for the amazingly-priced Wolcott Hotel in New York just three blocks from the Empire State Building but an exhausting walk to Times Square (cab anyone?). Starting at $281 per night, this is a hidden treasure in terms of a clean, nicely sized hotel room with friendly service and considerable amenities for the discount price.

Park Central Hotel New York
Everything is super-sized in New York and that includes the size of the hotels. With 935 rooms – yes, count them – the Park Central Hotel sits as a formidable host on the edge of – you guessed it – Central Park. This hotel is all about the location. Not only do you have the park within two minutes of the hotel, but you can also quickly make your way to Times Square and the great shopping district on 57th Street as well as a subway right around the corner.
With location comes value – room value, amenities value, and experience value – with rooms starting at $382. The rooms are much larger than the shoe box you would think they would be since there are so many of them! If you want to stretch even farther, there are also 12 suites to choose from at a much higher price. The bathroom and main sleeping area are quite spacious. Each one includes a writing desk, in-room safe, and a 32-inch flat screen television. If you cannot tear yourself away from your email, you can go on the Internet for $12.95 per day from your room. Or, if you must keep up your exercise regimen, there is a fitness center. For those brave enough to rent a car in the city, they do have valet. Read more »
On the Avenue Hotel New York
With an air of sophistication and an ultra-chic modern design, On the Avenue is a swank boutique hotel on the Upper West Side that still made us feel cozy and warm in the midst of the city. This 251-room hotel (23 of these are suites) is close to the action and nearby to Lincoln Center and the Museum of Natural History.
From the moment we walked into the gorgeous lobby and were whisked away to our room with the sound of a piano player who tinkled away on the ivories near the entrance, we knew that this would be an experience to remember.
The room was amazing! Although the modernist design may seem stark at first glance, it was full of luxury. From the black marble, 8-inch plasma television, and plush towels and robes in the bathroom to the feather duvet and pillows, Godiva coffee, and the Belgian chocolates on our turn-down service, we knew we had arrived in luxury. Other perks include a complimentary newspaper and Internet, a mini-fridge that can be placed in your room, and 24-hour business center, concierge, and room service. Read more »
Bentley Hotel New York
With a name like Bentley one expects the debonair and sophistication of perhaps soccer star David Beckham in his drop-top, jet black Bentley cruising through Manhattans upper East Side. My immediate thought was that this hotel could, in fact, be seated in the lap or luxury or it could be an establishment where a fancy name is used to disguise a flea-bag hostel. The good news upon arrival is that the Bentley Hotel in New York has the architectural equivalent of the stylish good looks as my dreamy vision of Mr. Beckham in his Bentley automobile.
Recently remodeled into a minimalist tour-de-force, I breathed a sigh of relief as I strode under the glass awning into the stainless steel doors and onto the plush carpeting of my vacations blank canvas. Camel colored Churchill chairs lined the foyer bookended by tall, thin endtables and lamps. The glamour followed me into my room as I laid my eyes on a sea of restful colors like taupe and moss-green. As with most of the 197 rooms, mine offered me a breathtaking cityscape view. Featuring a king bed and Frette linens every guest is assured a comfortable nights sleep while being lulled by the magic of the Big Apple. Read more »
